Our history

The love for Salento began over ten years ago. Since our first holiday in Puglia it has been a slow, but increasingly strong, journey of falling in love.

The depth of the colors: the blue of the sky and the water, the red of the rich earth and the fiery sunsets over the sea… They are all part of us now and we could no longer do without them.

The same thing happened with the food, the real, intense flavors of the products of the land and the sea. And then, above all, with the people here, thanks to their hospitality and friendliness, never intrusive but always present.

The farmhouse simply appeared one day, hidden behind the high wall, behind the old church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, right in the historic center of Castrignano del Capo.

There was very little left of the original farmhouse dating back to the end of the 1700s, of the center inhabited by peasants or of the area used as a shelter for animals and of the cultivated area.

The restoration works lasted over two years, in compliance with the regulations provided by the Superintendency of Fine Arts. This was possible thanks to the irreplaceable craft of local workers who have handed down the art and construction techniques from generation to generation and who are able to diligently recover existing materials and parts and reproduce architectural elements typical of Salento such as barrel vaults and star- and double star-shaped vaults, true masterpieces of skill and tenacity.

Today, Corte Cucciata is not new: it has always been there. It has only come back to life.
