An ancient masseria in the heart of Salento

AN ANCIENT AND EXCLUSIVE MASSERIA IN THE HEART OF SALENTO

Inland
of Capo di Leuca

Nestled in the picturesque hinterland of Capo di Leuca, Corte Cucciata is a historic masseria in Salento, located in a small, quiet village, far from the tourist crowds and perfectly preserved to offer an authentic experience. Its origins date back to the late 1700s, when it was a small settlement inhabited by farmers, surrounded by cultivated fields and featuring an area dedicated to animal shelter. Even today, every architectural element tells this story:
  • The hidden courtyard, protected by a massive enclosing wall, which inspired the name “Cucciata”.
  • Rooms with thick tuff stone walls, built to keep the interior cool during the scorching Salento summers.
  • Tall ancient vaults, a testament to local craftsmanship.
  • The old hearth, once a gathering place for families, where traditional dishes were prepared in iron cauldrons.
Over time, outside the masseria’s walls, the Borgo Antico developed, now the vibrant heart of the village, characterized by picturesque alleys and the majestic Chiesa Matrice. Here, an important statue of Saint Michael the Archangel, crafted by the renowned Neapolitan sculptor Nicola Fumo, is preserved. about us

OUR HISTORY

Our story: s deep connection with Salento

Our love for Salento began more than ten years ago, during our first vacation in Puglia. It was a slow but ever-growing passion, a deep bond that kept drawing us back, year after year, until we truly felt part of this land.

We were captivated by the intense blue of the sky and sea, the vibrant red of the earth and fiery sunsets, and the authentic flavors of the local cuisine, rich in tradition and genuine ingredients. But more than anything, it was the hospitality of the Salentini that made us feel at home—warm, welcoming people, always available yet never intrusive, eager to generously share the beauty and culture of their land.

The discovery of Corte Cucciata

One day, almost by chance, we found Corte Cucciata, hidden behind its high enclosing wall, next to the ancient Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, in the heart of Castrignano del Capo. The masseria seemed to guard the secrets of a distant past, a silent witness to a simple yet intense life, made of hard work in the fields and evenings spent by the hearth.

Little remained of the original structure, which dated back to the late 1700s. The rooms that once housed the farmers were in ruins, the old animal stables were nothing more than crumbling walls, and the once fertile fields awaited restoration to their former beauty. Yet, behind every timeworn stone, the history, value, and authentic soul of this place could still be felt.

The restoration: a labor of passion and tradition

Bringing Corte Cucciata back to life was a long and passionate project. The restoration took over two years and was carried out in full compliance with the regulations set by the Superintendence of Fine Arts.

From the very beginning, we chose to rely on local artisans, guardians of ancient knowledge passed down through generations, capable of restoring authentic materials and recreating the typical architectural elements of Salento. The barrel, star, and double-star vaults, true masterpieces of artisanal ingenuity, were carefully restored, returning the masseria to its original structure. Every stone, every detail was crafted with passion and respect, so that Corte Cucciata could once again be a place of beauty and hospitality, telling its centuries-old story through its walls.

Today: a new chapter in an ancient story

Today, Corte Cucciata is not a new reality. It has always been here, preserved by time, waiting to be rediscovered. It has come back to life with the same authenticity as before, ready to welcome those who wish to be captivated by the truest soul of Salento.
